Men are lucky in that they are not judged by appearance quite as much as are women. They do not have to agonise about what to wear to create the desired impression: a suit for work and jeans or shorts at the weekend more or less cover it, and it is unlikely that they will get any complaints as long as their clothes are clean.
Shoes can be a little more difficult, particularly once men get past the stage of wearing some version of trainers on every occasion. The traditional lace-up still exists, but there is little confidence among customers about what sort of shoes are ok to wear with what. Style advisers report that questions about shoes are the largest single category of query, showing that there is a fair bit of insecurity about footwear for men.
A good rule about Lacoste shoes is that expensive ones are often truly worth it. A nice pair of well-made leather shoes can literally last a lifetime if they are well looked after. They need to be polished regularly to keep the leather supple, and to be taken to the shoe mender before the soles get completely worn into nothing, but if those things are done, there is no reason that they should not outlast most owners.
